Free online course from the ELV – Getting started in Literary Translation

The Expertise Centrum Literaire Vertalen (ELV) of Utrecht University has recently put out a free online course on getting started in literary translation, called “Kennismaking met literair vertalen” (available in Dutch only). They asked me to offer my two cents in Part 4: The Translator as Entrepreneur. It’s a great series, offering a ton of insight and advice from translators from Dutch to all different languages. If you’re just starting out in literary translation (or curious about how other translators work), be sure to check it out!

Translating Scientific Integrity: The Rules of Academic Research by Kees Schuyt

This past summer, I had the pleasure of translating Tussen fout en fraude by Kees Schuyt for Leiden University Press. This book, titled Scientific Integrity: The Rules of Academic Research in English, offers an in-depth look at the latest developments in scientific ethics and academic integrity policies in the Netherlands. I really enjoyed working with author Kees Schuyt, professor Maghiel van Crevel and the team at Leiden University Press in the editorial process, and, what can I say, the final result is absolutely lovely. The book has been published open access and can be downloaded in its entirety here.

Translating and editing for karres+brands’ new book!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with karres+brands as a freelance translator and editor since 2015. This rapidly growing international firm specializes in landscape architecture and urban planning, with projects across the Netherlands and beyond. Through my work with them, I’ve learned a lot about all the creativity that goes into designing healthy living environments and modern, multifunctional public spaces — not to mention the extensive Dutch vocabulary for sustainable, socially-minded design.

Last year, I collaborated with karres+brands on the translation and editing of their new book. This beautiful Dutch-English bilingual edition contains fascinating images and detailed descriptions of their 2017 landscape architecture and urban planning projects. As always, it’s wonderful to see the final result in print!
